Judy & George works with businesses to develop their identity, strengthen their image, raise visibility, generate awareness, and influence perception.
We’re a small but powerful team of two principals with over 20 years of collective experience in Corporate Communications and its complementary disciplines, including venture development, business management, research and analysis, and technical writing. Our ability to clarify abstract thoughts and complex concepts is invaluable to our clients.
Our specialty is diversity. We’ve worked successfully with businesses across a broad range of industries, including science, technology, education, engineering and construction, consumer, and non-profit.
We come from diverse and complementary backgrounds. In the 10 years that we’ve been working together, we have discovered that our differences fuel our efficiency and spark creativity.
Judy Plummer Media Relations Strategist
Judy Plummer has many years of experience in the field of communications, and possesses a strong work ethic and proven track record in all aspects of corporate communications. A creative thinker and innovative problem solver, she consistently delivers high quality consultation, strategy and tactics designed to meet client goals and objectives.
Before launching Judy & George in April 2002, Judy co-founded Al Shugart International (“ASI”), a venture capital/public relations firm. As vice president of communications at ASI, she served as Al Shugart’s press secretary, and built a public relations firm consisting of early stage companies engaged in emerging technologies for the information industry. She also dedicated herself to developing ASI’s communications team — a staff of carefully selected, multi-disciplinary professionals with experience in communications, business development, market research and analysis, science, technology, networking, and customer service. Prior to ASI, Judy held the position of corporate communications manager at Seagate Technology, where she designed and implemented product, corporate, and internal communications programs.
Judy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dominican College, San Rafael, California. She has lived and worked in Santa Cruz County and Silicon Valley for over 20 years.
When Judy isn’t working, she’s thinking about work, dreaming of her next travel adventure, or envisioning a world with no more homeless pets.
George Nibler Writer
George Nibler is an accomplished writer, specializing in the evaluation and interpretation of emerging technologies for print and online media. He has extensive experience in a wide variety of industries. Website content, white papers, company newsletters, press releases and press kit collateral, product brochures and fact sheets, and other media-related documents are among the types of material that George prepares.
George specializes in technology counsel and strategy, competitive research and analysis, and the preparation of articles for publication in trade journals and magazines. He also prepares conference and trade show material, including abstracts and technical papers, that have been presented at conferences and published in conference proceedings.
Prior to Judy & George, George was a senior technology writer for Al Shugart International, a venture capital/public relations firm specializing in privately held, early stage technology companies.
George holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California Los Angeles, and a Master’s degree from Stanford University.
George’s philosophy is “less is more.”
Sonia Swain Marketing Specialist
Sonia Swain has numerous years of experience in Marketing. Her specialized skills include event strategies and management, sales lead generation, social networking, digital and print treatments, awards programs, and advertising. She has worked in a broad range of industries, including high tech, sports, construction and remodeling, green building, and healthcare. While employed by Talmadge Construction, a full-service general contractor specializing in residential design and remodeling, Sonia garnered a grand award for Excellence in Marketing Material Design from Remodeling Magazine. She secured other industry awards from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry on behalf of Talmadge Construction.
Sonia is also an accomplished blogger who posts witty, inspirational stories about her journey to become “fit for life.”
Sonia has completed advanced courses in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Audio and Internet applications. Sonia has also trained in the Computing Technology Industry Association’s (CompTIA) A+ Certification program, an international, vendor-neutral certification recognized by major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers. A+ Certification confirms a technician’s ability to perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking.
Sonia holds a black belt in Tae Kwan Do—a testament to her endurance and discipline—and is an avid cyclist who sports an impressive collection of jerseys with matching socks.
Rebecca Mirsky Technical Consultant
Dr. Rebecca Mirsky is currently Associate Professor with the Construction Management department at Boise State University. She is a registered professional environmental engineer with over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Her professional interests revolve around environmental issues related to the built environment. Chief among those interests are the development of alternative, renewable, and distributed energy, the efficient use of conventional energy, and energy-efficient and ‘green’ construction methods and materials, both in commercial/industrial and residential applications. Other specific interests are reduction and recycling of construction waste; erosion control and stormwater management; dust and noise control; and sustainable land use planning.
Rebecca holds MS and PhD degrees in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tennessee, is a Registered Professional Engineer, and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional.
